Make sure you have a well-structured daily routine

Everyday life with an ADHD child is often chaotic. The children have problems structuring their actions and distinguishing important from unimportant tasks. That's why it's important to help your child in this regard. Show him how to structure an action and break down a big task into several smaller ones.

To ensure that the children can organize themselves as well as possible, a well-structured daily routine is important. If dinner is always on the table at the same time and children have to go to bed at the same time, it will be easier for them to adjust to it. On the other hand, you should avoid any surprises in your daily routine, because ADHD children usually do not get along well with this. Firm habits, on the other hand, convey security and peace.

Extraordinary appointments should be communicated to your child in good time so that there is enough time to adapt to them. But even everyday appointments should always be announced: If dinner is imminent, tell your child that there will be food in ten minutes.

For example, you can develop a system that credits your child for certain behaviors. If the child has reached a certain number of points, they can be redeemed for an ice cream, a book or an outing. In the ideal case, reward not only the actual behavior, but also the effort to show a certain behavior.

Avoid difficult situations

If you realize that certain situations in everyday life prove to be particularly difficult, you should try to avoid them or at least to defuse them. Plan ahead for possible reactions from your child - so you have the opportunity to act instead of reacting.

For example, if you bring your child to the store, tell him beforehand that it should always be close to the shopping cart and not on your own make the supermarket unsafe. In return, offer him an attractive job, such as helping to choose food.
