The summer is over, the days are getting shorter, the daylight less. Wet leaves turn the road into a slide, the first night frost threatens, to in the morning inexperienced ABC marksmen in the street. In autumn, motorists need a heightened awareness of dangers. That alone is not enough.
First condition: clear view
First of all, the driver needs a clear view. It is not only the maintenance of the mobile pedestal with headlight cleaning and cleaning the windshield important. Sight also deserves an all-round check. Research has shown that one third of all road users see poorly.
About 85 percent of all information is taken in by people. This means: Those who do not see perfectly live dangerously on the road. Even the best safety technology in the car and regular inspections can not change that.
That's why Dr. dr. Klaus Brüggemann, Managing Director of the Association of TÜV eV (VdTÜV) in Berlin, the motorists regular eye tests: "As the car some deficiencies creeping occur, the visual performance of the eyes often imperceptible .. That's why - which is the rule of thumb - the motorists all Two years to the eye test, just as the car must be driven up to the main investigation every two years. "
In order to ensure that the eye test is not forgotten, Brüggemann has the tip to combine both and become routine: "First the car to the TÜV, then to the optician or ophthalmologist - both are quickly done." If the driver in the meantime doubts about his eyesight, he should of course not delay the walk to the eye test, but let the eyesight check. Wolfgang Spinler, Managing Director of the Automobile Club of Germany (AvD) advises: "The slightest doubt about the visual acuity should be reason enough to have the visual sense checked."
Tips for the perfect driver's glasses
If the driver needs a vision correction, he should discuss this with the optometrist, because not every model is equally well suited for driving. The ideal glasses for driving has sufficiently large glasses, narrow frame edges and thin straps and thus hardly limits the field of vision.
It makes sense to use a few optional extras: when cars drive in the dark season and the surroundings are illuminated, anti-reflective glasses stop annoying reflections on the lens. Another effect: If the lenses are less reflective, more light is automatically transmitted through the lens and can be absorbed by the eye. When driving in twilight and night the eyes do not tire so fast.
Coated glasses are available in three grades: light, normal and super-mirrored. Glasses with this highest reflectance reflect less than two percent of the light.
However, lenses only provide a clear view when they are clean. Stay clear for longer Lenses with grease and dirt repellent function. Just as regularly as the glasses, the windows in the car and the rear-view mirrors should also be cleaned. This prevents glare.
Irritating reflections can also be reduced by polarizing glasses. In them a special filter is integrated, which exploits a physical effect. Because reflected light waves oscillate, unlike the daylight, almost only in one direction. The polarizing glasses filter out the light with this direction of vibration and create the visual impression that the reflections have disappeared. Reflections on wet roads, shop windows or on metal surfaces are no longer noticeable.
